Sports Injuries
Physiotherapists are experts in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal and sporting injuries.
Whether you’re an elite athlete or just trying to keep fit, we’ll help return you to your best level of function after an injury.
The physiotherapists at The Oval Physiotherapy have extensive experience and specialist knowledge around treating acute and chronic pain and injury that happens during sport.
Intensive sport of any kind can result in people putting extra strain on muscles, bones and joints. Having worked with both professional and amateur sportspeople, we know that early treatment of an injury will get you back on your feet as quickly as possible.
To treat sports injuries, your physiotherapist may use the following techniques:
-
‘Hands on’ techniques such as massage and joint mobilisation
-
Taping to support an area or facilitate normal movement
-
Rehabilitation exercises and advice, taking into account individual goals and history
Prevention is best
We also advise on injury prevention. There are a few common injuries (including ankle sprains, knee injuries and hamstring strains) where a prevention program can significantly reduce the risk of injury if used effectively. A few regular exercises can have a significant and positive effect on your sporting performance.
The most common sporting injuries we treat are:
-
Muscle strains—hamstring, calf, quadriceps
-
Tendon injuries—Achilles, patella and gluteal tendon pain
-
Bony overuse injuries—such as ‘shin splints’ or stress fractures
-
Rehabilitation from surgery —knee, shoulder or ankle arthroscopies or reconstructions
We base our assessment and treatment of sports injuries on sound clinical and biological knowledge.
If you are suffering from a sports related injury, make an appointment as soon as possible. We can get you back to your favourite sport without delay.
